We've carried copies of this, Lori's debut release for some time, but following the success of the subsequent album 'Pieces of Me' the disc has been re-issued with 3 extra songs - and this gives us the excuse to feature it in the mailer.
It's a really impressive singer/songwriter disc, almost all acoustic guitar based, but the sound is varied and other instruments in the mix include mandolin, cello, and electric guitar. The disc has a vibrant feel, and much of this is down to McKenna's dynamic vocals and guitar style, both of which give the disc an edge that makes the disc sound fresh over repeated plays.
Despite the many high-points here, the lyrics are the definite standout - she's an incredibly articulate writer, thought-provoking, personal, and genuine, without ever becoming self-indulgent or hackneyed.
The disc deserved all the critical success it received on its original release - and 4 years later it remains an album any serious singer/songwriter follower should own.
