Almost exactly a year after 'The Green World' was released, this new live album captures Dar and band at their very best over three dates from the subsequent tour.
Taking its material from all four of Dar's solo albums, the track listing reads like a best of collection, it's a varied and complete list that covers all aspects of her material; they'll be few people disappointed with the song selections.
While the material may be familiar, the disc is fresh and the songs have a real sparkle about them; the arrangements are the real standout on the disc. The live setting has added lots of detail and colour to many of the songs, from solo acoustic performances (February, The Babysitter's Here) to fantastic full band interpretations (Iowa, The Ocean). There are many highpoints on the disc, but the working of 'As Cool As I Am' is a brilliant way to start the 16 tracks, and the overall quality of band (guitars and percussion in particular) is breathtaking at times.
'Out There Live' is a polished and dynamic recording of a progressive singer/songwriter and at her peak - the arrangements and performances are full of both energy and subtlety, the live interpretations standing up favourably against their studio counterparts. A must for existing fans, and easily the best introduction to her catalogue for newcomers; an excellent disc.
