Peter Mulvey has been one of the hardest working singer/songwriters over the past 10 years or so, but while many of his contemporaries have found a higher profile Peter has remained a relatively low-key artist in the wider public eye.
His albums and live-shows have received deserved praise, and his intelligent songwriting and extraordinary guitar style make him a distinct talent - a prolific writer and tourer, his strongest suit is just him and his guitar and it's here that the lyrics and the brilliance of his guitar work shine through.
‘Notes from Elsewhere’ is a brand new album of the very best songs he’s written - he took himself to the studio and recorded them solo with just his acoustic guitar.
This approach put the focus in the right areas, the speed, precision and character in his guitar work is bewildering – the amount of detail and colour he gets from his guitar makes this a varied and engaging collection of 17 songs.
His lyrics are thoughtful and occasionally challenging, those who like to throw themselves into words will find plenty of depth here.
The simplicity of the man, a guitar and his songs is utterly engaging, and this is an album that highlights that the power of song from a gifted artist and exceptional musician. An excellent album.
