Fish Records joint favourite release from 1998 (along with Ellis Paul's "Translucent Soul"), has now been released in the UK and not before time! Taking three of the brightest young, solo contemporary folk writers and performers (Dar Williams, Richard Shindell and Lucy Kaplansky) and twelve of their favourite songs by other artists has resulted in a well balanced, polished album with many memorable moments. Taking their fair share of lead vocals and all helping with background vocals keeps your interest throughout the fifty minutes plus, the harmonies in particular are worthy of note, the three of them sound great together.
There are too many great tracks to pick out highlights, but 'Cold Missouri Waters' and 'Shades of Gray' are two of the finest songs you ever wish to hear - truly exceptional. A worthy addition to any collection, there is something here for everyone.
Worth the asking price for the first 5 tracks alone, and a cast iron future classic.
